The Sumners Foundation

The Sumners Foundation provides three types of scholarships:

1. Scholarships for rising juniors for their junior and senior years at a Texas or Oklahoma College or University. Scholarships are $15,000/year for each of those last two years of undergraduate work. Students must be U.S. citizens and permanent residents of Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Arkansas, or Kansas. Scholarships will be awarded this spring to be applied in the fall of 2024. Second semester sophomores this spring are the ideal candidates.

2. FULL-RIDE law school scholarships at SMU Dedman School of Law and Oklahoma City University School of Law. Students must be starting law school in the fall of 2024. Application codes must be obtained from the law schools. Students must be U.S. citizens and permanent residents of Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Arkansas, or Kansas.

3. PhD Candidates in Political Philosophy. Scholarships are $15,000/year for post-abstract work related to the mission of the Foundation. Applicants must be enrolled as full-time Ph.D. students who have advanced to candidacy by March 2024. Candidates must have a permanent residence in any of the following states (Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma or Texas) and must be attending college in either Texas or Oklahoma

The application deadline for At-Large undergraduate scholarships is April 1, 2024 at 5:00 PM, Central Time.

SMU Law School applications are due February 7, 2024.

Oklahoma City University Law School applications are due February 1, 2024.

PhD in Political Philosophy are due March 8, 2024.
