The Leon and Bella Jacobs Endowed Fellowship in Sociology
The Leon and Bella Jacobs Endowed Fellowship in Sociology is a permanent endowment and shall be used to support graduate research fellowship(s) in the Department of Sociology in the College of Health, Community and Policy. Preference will be given to students pursuing research related to children and youth. This includes but is not limited to research associated with foster youth, immigration youth, early childhood education and health disparities. It is an annual award of $5,000.00 covering an academic year.
An applicant must have a minimum 3.25 GPA in sociology graduate coursework, completed at least 9 graduate hours, has not withdrawn (W) from a graduate course, demonstrates outstanding use of sociological theory and methodology for understanding social issues.
The following items must be submitted for fellowship award consideration.
1. A personal narrative stating the purpose for applying for the fellowship and why he/she qualifies for the award.
2. A curriculum vita.
3. A current copy of coursework transcripts (an official university copy is not required).
4. Two letters of recommendation
The award recipient must be enrolled as a full-time graduate student during each semester during the award period.
