Spring 2024 First-Gen Scholars Scholarship

The First-Gen Scholars Program fosters first-generation undergraduate student success by reducing loan debt, increasing graduation rates, and emphasizing career-engaged learning.

Support for Personal, Academic, and Career Success
Student scholars will receive a semester scholarship of up to $1000. With support from peer mentors and faculty mentors, students will enhance their career readiness skills, and expand their personal and professional networks.

Scholars meeting program and eligibility requirements will be eligible to renew scholarship funding for fall 2024.

Program Eligibility
• First-generation college student (Parents’ or guardians’ highest level of education is less than a Bachelor’s degree)
• Eligible for the Federal Pell Grant
• Enrolled full-time at UTSA
• Texas Resident
• Good Academic Standing (Overall GPA of 2.0 of higher)
• Junior Classification (when entering program)

Program requirements
• Meet 3 times with members of your First-Gen Success Team (includes assigned peer mentor and faculty coach) each semester
• Meet 2 times with your chosen career mentor(s) each semester
• Engage in 1 career-focused workshop or signature event each semester
• Engage in one (1) career-engaged learning opportunity (e.g., internship, undergraduate research, study abroad, campus employment) annually
