First-Gen STEM Scholars sponsored by USAA

The First-Gen STEM Scholars Program sponsored by USAA fosters first-generation undergraduate student success by reducing loan debt, increasing graduation rates, and emphasizing career-engaged learning.

Support for Personal, Academic, and Career Success
Student scholars will receive an annual scholarship of up to $5000. With support from peer mentors, faculty coaches, and career counselors, students will enhance their career readiness skills, expand their personal and professional networks, and ensure they persist towards graduation.

Based on the start date of the student, scholarships and funding are provided for up to four terms.
• Seniors entering the program in Fall 2021 can expect scholarship support through the end of Spring 2022*
• Juniors entering the program in Fall 2021 can expect scholarship support through the end of Spring 2023*

*Recipients MUST meet eligibility requirements to continue in the program.

Program Eligibility Requirements
• First-generation college student (Parents’ or guardians’ highest level of education is less than a Bachelor’s degree)
• Eligible for the Federal Pell Grant
• Enrolled full-time at UTSA
• Enrolled in a STEM major (Includes data sciences and cybersecurity)
• From Bexar and adjacent counties (Atascosa, Bandera, Comal, Guadalupe, Kendall, Medina, and Wilson)
• Good Academic Standing (Overall GPA of 2.0 of higher)
• On track to graduate Spring 2022 (Seniors) or Spring 2023 (Juniors)
