The Honors College Study Abroad Planning Scholarship
The Honors College Study Abroad Planning Scholarship is for students planning to study abroad in Spring 2025, Summer 2025, or Fall 2025. Please visit https://honors.utsa.edu/scholarships/study-abroad-award.html for more details on eligibility and for information on further incentives to increase your award amount. In this application, you will enter your program information, and budget and upload your Statement of Purpose essay. It is not required for you to have already applied to your study abroad program.
Eligibility
• Students must be a member of the Honors College.
• Final scholarship amounts cannot exceed the overall cost of attendance + travel.
• Students must be in the process of applying to a study abroad program, whether an academic, internship, service learning, or research program. Program must be credit bearing, either by transfer or course offered by UTSA.
• Independent travel outside of a structured program is not eligible.
• Scholarship awardees must comply with all requirements, regulations, and policies established by UTSA Education Abroad.
• Students can be in any year, from their first year to the year they graduate.
• Must have 2.5 (semester) GPA, as required by UTSA Education Abroad.
• Students must apply to the UTSA International Education Fund (https://global.utsa.edu/education-abroad/student-directory/Study-Abroad-Funding/Study-Abroad-Funding.html), which provides additional funding.
• Upon acceptance to the study abroad program, students must submit all required paperwork to the Study Abroad Office, including the Study Abroad Financial Aid Request form.
• Student must attend the program to have the scholarship disburse or attend similar program in the case of cancellation.
This award cannot be applied to students from the Top Scholar Program or Terry Scholar Program, which already provides international enrichment funding.
• This award cannot be applied to the Honors College Costa Rica Program, which already has scholarships applied to it. Students are encouraged to apply to International Education Fund, Gilman Scholarship, and Honors Experiential Learning Award (https://honors.utsa.edu/scholarships/honors-experiential-learning-award.html)

- Does your program issue academic credit? If not, you can still apply for the scholarship, but we will need to consult with you on how to receive academic credit.
- Statement of Purpose Essay (2 pages): In your essay, be specific in describing your reasons for studying abroad as it pertains to your particular study abroad program. Our application question is directly taken from the Gilman Scholarship for study abroad.

If you are not accepted to your study abroad program yet, we will require proof of acceptance at a later date.
